When it comes to online shopping, there’s always a risk that when your purchase turns up, it will be disappointing.
Perhaps it won’t look the same on you as it did on the model, it could end up being made from a scratchy fabric that you just can’t stand against your skin, or maybe the sizing is just completely and totally off.
This is something that seems to be happening a lot recently, but one woman’s purchase put an interesting spin on this trend.
Katrina Harradine from South East London recently ordered a two-piece Stripe Tie Triangle High Waistbikinifrom Boohoo for her upcoming holiday.
The 29-year-old bought the swimming costume in a size 16 but was very surprised by what turned up.
Instead of one size 16, she was sent two pairs of bikini bottoms in a size eight.
And while two eights may make 16 in the numeracy world, the same obviously doesn’t apply in the realm of fashion.
Katrina, who works as a freelance project manager, was shocked by the blunder and took to Twitter to berate the online retailer for the mistake.
She wrote: “Hey @boohoo_cshelp did y’all run out of size 16 bikini bottoms so send me two sizes 8’s like a maths joke?? I actually wish I was kidding.”
Speaking about the bizarre situation later, she said: “Sizing is never perfect but you don’t ever expect anything as bad as this.
“You usually end up ordering and hoping for the best but this is ridiculous.”
The shopper claims she has been given a “feeble” apology from Boohoo and was asked to return the package with a note, explaining the mix-up.
She added: “I ordered a whole bunch of stuff on a 5 deal. I’m going to the Caribbean on June 23 for seven weeks and needed some new bikinis.
“I couldn’t believe it when I opened the package. I thought to myself, ‘Why me? Why do I always get these ridiculous things happening to me?’
“I decided to post it on Twitter because I thought I could have some fun with it.
“I opened it up and put it against myself and only fit one leg through.”
Boohoo has been contacted for comment.
